San Diego Museum of Art

Here are a few images from a recent visit to the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park.

This view of Venice has always been my favorite painting in the museum; I've been stopping in to see it since I moved to San Diego about early 1981.  It used to be known as a work by Giovanni Antonio Canaletto, but apparently more recently someone who knows these things has decided it was in fact painted by Bernardo Bellotto. Bellotto was Canaletto's nephew.  Either way, it's still my favorite.

Maritime Museum of San Diego

I spent a few hours one evening at the end of December wandering around the Maritime Museum of San Diego.  Here are a few images.

The late afternoon sunlight painted everything in a golden tone.  That's the Star of India with San Diego downtown skyline in the background.

I spent a fair amount of time on the Russian submarine.  It's one of my favorite parts of the museum for taking photos.

I even found someone to pose for a portrait of sorts.
