Heather and I went to Sea World last night. We saw a lot of sharks.

Cinta - Malayan Tiger
Here are a few recent pictures of Cinta, one of the younger Malayan Tigers at the San Diego Zoo.
For a good portion of the time I was there Cinta was out of sight, only poking his head out where I could see him for a couple of seconds at a time.
When he did come out, the sunlight was bright and harsh.
And the areas not in direct sunlight were in deep shadow.
Cinta's brother Berani was in the same enclosure the whole time, but he spent the entire time I was there lounging on a rock in the shade at the top of the hill, so no pictures of Berani this time.

Connor the Malayan Tiger
I got to spend several hours with Connor, the older of the Malayan Tigers at the San Diego Zoo, on Saturday morning, December 9.

Mission San Diego de Alcala
The Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala was the first Franciscan mission founded in the Californias, on July 16, 1769. I stopped by for a couple of hours late in the day recently, to catch the late afternoon sunlight on the buildings.
The front of the church faces southwest, almost straight into the setting sun, which can make for some interesting photos . . .
. . . especially on those rare occasions when they open the front doors late in the day.
Another cool thing about visiting in December is that the setting sun is in just the right place to cast a shadow of the bells on the wall of the church.

Point Loma Lighthouse at Sunset
The Cabrillo National Monument grounds close at 5pm, so there are only a few weeks during the year when you can be at the Point Loma Lighthouse at sunset. This year I've managed a few trips to watch the sunset so far. These images are from December 3rd and 13th.
As the sun gets low in the sky the lighthouse is bathed in golden light.
It turns out I was not the only one with the idea that this would be a great place to watch the sunset from.
As the sun goes down the sky to the northeast looking out towards the City of San Diego picks up some color as well.
As I was heading to my car I noticed that they had a light on in the lantern at the lighthouse.

Malayan Tigers - San Diego Zoo
I spent a few hours this morning hanging out with Cinta and Berani, two Malayan Tigers at the San Diego Zoo. It was fun.

Cinta and Berani - Malayan Tigers
Here are some images of Cinta and Berani, Malayan Tigers at the San Diego Zoo, a few days after Thanksgiving. It's nice to see that they are still able to be together.
These next three are part of a series of several shots that only lasted a couple of seconds, but was great fun to watch. You can see the whole series at the link at the end of this post.

Big Cats and Little Cat - San Diego Zoo
Here are some images of the Malayan Tigers and the Malaysian Fishing Cat, both at the San Diego Zoo, from early November.
At one point Cinta and Berani got into a fairly heated discussion about something (I'm not sure what), but after a bit they were friends again.
This time of year there is about an hour where there is really nice light in the Fishing Cat habitat, and she just happens to sit waiting for her lunch in just the right spot.
