A Short Trip to Clearwater Beach, Florida

I had to make a short (2 nights) trip to Clearwater Beach, Florida at the beginning of this week. This has to be one of the nicest white-sand beaches anywhere. I arrived late in the day on Monday, and there wasn't going to be much of a sunset that night.

Here's the view from my hotel room balcony early Tuesday morning.

It was too cold and windy to use the pool at the Hyatt Regency, but I did manage to get a picture resting my camera on the edge of the pool.

Sunset At The Beach

I went down to La Jolla on Sunday Jan 23rd to catch the sunset. It was one of the less dramatic ones, the color was gone from the sky pretty quickly, but it's always nice there.

A Few Shots From Balboa Park This Evening

Here are a few shots from this evening, walking around Balboa Park as the sun was setting.

It was a beautiful evening for a walk around the Park.

San Diego Waterfront and Urban Trees

I spent a few hours on Sunday walking along the waterfront on San Diego Bay looking at the newest installment of the Urban Trees. This is the 7th round of sculptures - this batch will be here until October of 2011. The sculptures are set in large planter boxes along the waterfront walkway.

This one is called One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

A locked birdcage, but with all the birds sitting outside.

Wandering Around Balboa Park

I spent a few hours wandering around Balboa Park on Saturday, Jan 15th. It was sunny and warm, and felt good to be outside after having been cooped up with the flu for the last week and a half. The Sculpture Garden alongside the San Diego Museum of Art is always fun for contrasting colors on a bright day.

The Art Museum itself is almost monochromatic on a bright winter day.

I wonder how many people go into the Botanical Building and never bother to look up.

USS Midway Museum - San Diego, CA

We toured the USS Midway Museum on Sunday, January 2nd. Here are a few shots, and a link to a full gallery.

New Year's Day at the San Diego Zoo

I'm finally getting caught up on a few things, including posting some recent pictures. We went to the San Diego Zoo on New Year's Day.

We saw a panda.

We saw a jaguar.

We saw this really cool group of rock hyrax.

Actually, we really did see the pandas. This one is an adult male who is apparently only about 1/3 the average size. Not for lack of an appetite I would say.

I managed to get this shot right before they turned off the lights in the Reptile House.
