San Diego Zoo - Saturday September 15, 2018

Normally I start my morning at the San Diego Zoo with a visit to the Malayan Tigers.  See the previous post for how that worked out on this day.

I did get a chance to see a few other things though. The Siamese Crocodiles are cool.

I stopped in to the Parker Aviary and saw one of my favorite birds, the Inca Tern.

Got some nice views of the Toucan as well.

Sometimes . . . Nothing Happens

Last Saturday I spent close to two hours at the Malayan Tiger habitat at the San Diego Zoo . . . and Cinta spent the entire time napping at the very top of the hill.  I could not leave without taking at least one picture, so just for fun, here it is.

Feeding Time at the Flamingoes

It's interesting how mother Flamingoes feed their young.  They stay like that for quite a while.

Cinta - Malayan Tiger at the San Diego Zoo

Here are a few new images of Cinta, one of the Malayan Tigers at the San Diego Zoo.

Hippos (Mother and Son) at the San Diego Zoo

I had a chance to get some pictures of Funani and her just over a year old son Tony at the San Diego Zoo on Saturday.

Here's Tony.  I overheard a tour guide mentioning that he weighs in at about 900 pounds right now.  When you see him next to his mother, you can tell just how small that is . .  . for a hippo.

Here he is with his mother Funani.

Komodo dragon - San Diego Zoo

I was wandering around the San Diego Zoo last weekend with a few friends, and we happened to spot the Komodo Dragon sitting in the sun, with the wall behind him in deep shadow.  The sunlight was being diffused by the dirty skylight over his (her? - I have no idea) head, which made for some particularly nice lighting.  They really are beautiful to look at.

Amur Leopard - San Diego Zoo

Here are a couple of recent images of Satka, the female Amur Leopard at the San Diego Zoo.  She's been pretty busy lately, keeping after her two new cubs that were born in early April.

This almost doesn't look like the same cat, but it most certainly is.  These were only taken about 15 minutes apart.  The one below was earlier.

Cinta and Berani - Malayan Tigers at the San Diego Zoo

Here are a few recent pictures of brothers Cinta and Berani, 4 1/2 year old Malayan Tigers who live at the San Diego Zoo.

It's been pretty hot here lately; they've been spending a lot of time in the pool.
