If You Decide to Hang a Slab of Ribs in Your Backyard . . .

I'm not sure why anyone would, but if you should decide some day to hang a slab of ribs from a tree in your backyard, be careful where you put it . . . because . . . 

. . . you just never know when the neighborhood cat will come wandering by.
     

Christmas Day With The Tigers

I spent a few hours on Christmas morning hanging out with Connor, Cinta, and Berani, the Malayan Tigers at the San Diego Zoo.

On my way there I came upon a choice . . . but it was not so tough a choice it turns out.

Cinta found a gourd decorated for the holidays, and promptly decided to play with it.  This should serve as a warning for anyone who leaves holiday decorations out in the yard . . . you never know when the neighborhood cat is going to show up.

Later in the morning the keeper threw a couple more decorated gourds over the rail and into the pond.  Cinta and Berani went charging in after them.

It seems I got a lot more pictures of Cinta than I did of Berani, but in one of the pictures I did get of Berani he looks positively crazed.  I'm sure it's just the way the light is hitting him . . . and the way his eyes are.

Happy Easter, and a Public Service Announcement

I get Heather a chocolate Easter Bunny every year.  If you decide to get an Easter Bunny for your special someone, be careful where you leave it . . .

. . . because you just never know when the neighborhood cat is going to show up.

A New Year's Day Public Service Announcement

Think of this as a Public Service Announcement . . .

Among people I know, a traditional New Year's Day dinner is often a nice big roast beef.  If, like a friend of mine, you decide that the roast you've bought needs to hang for a bit of extra aging, be careful where you hang it . . .

. . . because . . . you just never know when the neighborhood cat is going to show up.

I'll put up more images later of Connor, the Malayan Tiger at the San Diego Zoo, from this morning, but for now I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year before the day was over. 

     

A Holiday Decorating Tip

Many people like to decorate their homes and yards this time of year. Heather and I always enjoy driving around to check out just how creative some of our neighbors can be. Snowmen seem to be a particularly popular decoration this year.

But, I think a word of caution may be in order. Think of this as a sort of public service announcement.

If, like my friend Aimee here, you decide to decorate your yard with a pinata in the shape of a snowman, please give some thought to what you fill it with. The traditional pieces of candy are probably a great idea. Even just stuffing it with paper would be fine. Fresh meat, on the other hand, might not be such a great idea . . . because . . .

. . . you just never know when the neighborhood cat is going to show up.

Happy Thanksgiving

Every year around Thanksgiving we hear lots of warnings about proper food handling, and the occasional story of someone who didn't pay attention. You rarely hear, however, about the equally dangerous practice of not washing your hands before putting up the decorations.

Think of this as a Public Service Announcement.

If, after you get done preparing the Thanksgiving meal this year, you decide to put out some festive decorations around your house or yard, be sure to wash the scent of raw meat off of your hands first . . . because . . .

. . . you never know when the neighborhood cat is going to show up.
